I find myself ambivalent towards this book. On the one hand, there is something appealing about Chamberlain’s childlike, tentative lines. There is more skill here than an initial glance might readily identify: he has a deft ability to capture extremely telling gestures and expressions with just a few well placed lines.

However, as much as I find myself drawn to certain isolated facets of the work, I find myself thoroughly unimpressed with the general lack of illustrative technique: to put it bluntly, it just doesn’t seem like Chamberlain knows how to draw very well. Worse still, this short booklet is merely an excerpt from a larger, as-yet incomplete work-in-process. It’s hard to judge whether or not the finished product would be worth seeking out based on this thin sample.
