ROAD SCHOLAR #3 & 4

Alan has been on the road for the better part of the past five years as an employee of our nation's renaissance faires and this zine documents one year of his life in (and out of) that environment as well as other distractions. (Before I go any further, I should mention that Alan is a pal of mine and a visit to my house even makes up a portion of the fourth issue's content. End of disclaimer.) Between these two issues Alan writes about film producer Alexander Korda, Godzilla (and the G-Fest convention in Chicago), how snakes don't die easily, a trip to Austin, scoring copies of Air Pirates Funnies for cheap, movie marathons he and I engaged in (Mad Monster Party, Marquis, Star Wars: The Phantom Edit, Let My Puppets Come, etc.), Ross Macdonald's The Galton Case and even more. List junkies will be pleased by a couple of substantial examples, plus there are color photos throughout each issue and plenty of entertaining writing. Road Scholar is sort of a journal zine with a travel slant with much attention paid to Alan's many interests. The fourth issue wraps up this title for the time being but Alan has plans to reprint The Trip, his earlier e-zine about joining the Ren Faire circuit.
