Envie de Bébé (I Want the Baby) is a delightful 16-page, pocket mini from Belgium about a pregnant woman contemplating whether she really wants her baby. She laments that she won’t have time for herself and is already pressed for time to create comics! Plus there’s morning sickness, childbirth and all that back-breaking work associated with kids. She visits a girlfriend who just had her own newborn and it pretty much confirms that she doesn’t want one – until she holds her friend’s baby. That blissful moment of feeling the infant nestle in her arms makes her forget all her concerns and complaints of having her own. The story may seem weighty, but Mélanie’s cartoonish style evokes a light, humorous mood.
